New leadership reinforces Mitsubishi Power's commitment to the African region, in delivering innovative solutions that support the energy transition

Johannesburg, August 1, 2022 - Mitsubishi Power Africa (Pty) Ltd. has appointed Mr. Naoki Okumura as CEO on August 1, 2022. He succeeds Mr. Yusuke Kurogi.

Based in Johannesburg, Mr. Okumura will oversee a team of employees across the Sub-Saharan Africa. They will deliver best-in-class energy generation technologies that help countries in the region balance energy security and reliability with sustainable development. He will also further strengthen close relationships with local public and private stakeholders in the region to drive decarbonisation of Mitsubishi Power's operations and value chain, towards attaining MHI's "Mission Net Zero" goal by 2040.

Mr. Okumura, a Bachelor of Economics graduate, began his career in 1989 at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and has experienced various kinds of fields such as power, industry, and administration of the business.

We sat down with Mr. Okumura to find out more about his personality, his interests outside of work and most importantly what his new role means to him, as well as the Mitsubishi Power Africa employees. Mr. Okumura believes in the vision of Mitsubishi Power Africa and is confident in his ability to lead the company to greater heights. He believes that if you focus on your assigned tasks and ignore the outside noise, you will excel, resulting in larger and unexpected long-term rewards.

His top priority is to ensure employee safety, health, and harmony. That is something he firmly believes in. He believes that a workplace with discordant employees becomes stagnant, and this is something he hopes to avoid. Mr. Okumura has an open-door policy and hopes that each employee will feel comfortable approaching him about any issues that may be impeding their ability to produce exceptional work.
