The Power Plant construction site is located about 10 km east of the Tunisian capital, Tunis. The new "Rades C" power plant has a capacity of 450 MWe and will adopt gas turbine combined cycle generation, which is highly efficient with less greenhouse gases. Gas turbine initial operation is scheduled before summer 2019, with combined cycle full operation before summer 2020.

In constructing the Power Plant, Sumitomo Corporation will provide balance of plant and undertake civil and installation work. MHPS will provide a M701F gas turbine, a steam turbine, and dispatch technical advisors and supervisors to support during the installation and commissioning periods. Mitsubishi Electric Corporation will provide generators. MHPS Europe, a subsidiary of MHPS, will provide a heat recovery steam generator and some ancillary components; the company also signed a six-year maintenance contract for the power plant.

"The groundbreaking ceremony of Rades C is another milestone, not only for MHPS and our consortium partners", said Satoshi Uchida, Chief Executive Officer of MHPS Europe during the ceremony. "It is also an important step for the future development of the Republic of Tunisia, as new power sources are vital for economic growth." After the start of its operation, the new unit will provide about 10% of the country's total power generating capacity.

Starting back in 1985, the MHI / MHPS Group delivered gas- and oil-fired boilers and steam turbines for the first two units of the Rades power plant, which are still being operated in good condition and at a high availability. Satoshi Uchida: "Customer satisfaction is always one of our main targets and we want to achieve this target also in the Rades C project."
