PGE Energia Ciepła, a subsidiary of Polish power company Polska Grupa Energetyczna (PGE), has signed a contract with Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Europe GmbH for the modernization of Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) installations in four combined heat power plants. The units are located in Gdańsk, Gdynia, Wrocław and Kraków.

The scope of work will include the construction of sieve trays in all of the absorbers. This project is part of PGE's BAT (Best Available Techniques) compliance program and will help the sites to meet stricter EU environmental standards for large combustion plants.

This is another FGD modernization project awarded to MHPS Europe in a short period. Earlier contracts included the modernization of three FGD absorbers in the Kozienice power station (client: ENEA Wytwarzanie sp. z o.o.) and modernization of a FGD absorber in the Łaziska power station (client: Tauron Wytwarzanie S.A.).
