Boiler rehabilitation contract in Kuwait awarded

Print

The Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) has awarded MHPS Europe with a contract to rehabilitate and upgrade six boilers in unit 29 of Mina Al-Ahmadi refinery in Kuwait. The rehabilitation includes improving the combustion system (implementing low-NOx burners), extending the lifetime (by upgrading pressure parts), enhancing auxiliary systems to enable a higher availability and operational flexibility of the unit. The contract volume amounts to a two-digit million Euro amount.

The refinery was established in 1949 with a production capacity of 25,000 barrels per day. It has since then expanded twice, adding more units and increasing the capacity to about 446,000 barrels daily. Four boilers in unit 29 of the refinery have been operational since 1976 and two more since the mid-80s, making a comprehensive rehabilitation necessary.

The modular design of the boilers allow for a compact shutdown schedule. The boilers will be rehabilitated sequentially starting July 2021. The rehabilitation will not only restore the boilers to their original output and efficiency but will also guarantee the highest level of availability.
