♦ The new order aims to increase the operational life of a power plant and lower CO2 emissions in Schwerin, Germany.

Duisburg, October 26, 2021 – Mitsubishi Power Europe has received an order from the municipality of Schwerin (Stadtwerke Schwerin) to modernize the combined heat and power plant at the Schwerin South site, Germany. The project involves the modernization of the two waste heat boilers, the renewal of the flue gas ducts, the installation of a modern auxiliary firing system, and electrical measurement, control, and regulation technology.

The combined heat and power plant in Schwerin South consists of two combinedcycle units which generate electricity and district heating for households in the region. The major refit will contribute significantly to improving the long-term supply of electricity and heat. In addition, all upgrades allow for higher efficiency of the new components, implying that less natural gas is burned for a similar amount of electricity and thus lowering CO2 emissions.

"We are pleased that Stadtwerke Schwerin has placed their trust in our team to implement this complex modernization concept," said Andreas Rupp, Head of Sales Business Unit Service at Mitsubishi Power Europe. "Carrying out such projects requires extensive engineering expertise and comprehensive customer-tailored planning. Mitsubishi Power Europe is one of the leading suppliers on the market that provides full service and ensures reliable operation”.

René Tilsen, Head of Power Generation at Stadtwerke Schwerin, adds: "This major project is an investment in the future, both economically and with a view to the continuously increasing climate protection requirements. That's why we are using the best technology currently available, right from the selection and installation of our new components. With Mitsubishi Power Europe, we have the perfect  partner at our side for this."
