Gaz Et L’Energie Selects MHPS for One M501JAC and One Steam Turbine for Humay Project
MHPS Leading Reliability and Efficiency Chosen to Help Modernize and Diversify Peru Power Grid
LAKE MARY, FLA. – (December 6, 2017) Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems (MHPS) has been technically selected by Gaz Et L’Energie (GEL) for the Humay Power Station project in Peru.
The project includes one M501JAC gas turbine, heat recovery steam generator, and steam turbine. The plant will be built in the Ica district, close to the city of Pisco, Peru, with a projected completion in 2020. The facility will produce 500 megawatts (MW) of electricity to power up to 500,000 homes and industrial customers.
With Peru’s aim of continuing to modernize and diversify the national power grid, the MHPS M501JAC is a perfect fit with 64% efficiency, 99.5% reliability and combined cycle output in excess of 500 MW. The air-cooled advanced class gas turbine was chosen to meet the customer’s goal of efficient, reliable power with low water consumption and emissions, a testament to the commitment of GEL to the local community.
“Partnering with GEL to provide Peru with clean, dispatchable power is what MHPS is doing for utilities and Independent Power Producers on a global basis,” said Paul Browning, MHPS President and CEO. “In 2004, we made the goal to get to 65% efficiency, and as we approach that goal, we are proud to offer the most efficient and reliable advanced class gas turbines. Providing MHPS-TOMONITM enabled equipment to the Humay Power Station will allow real-time digitization and analytics to enable plant operators to solve challenges and seize opportunities. Our approach to customer collaboration and dependability will continue to showcase MHPS as a reliable, cutting-edge, and stable partner.”
“This new plant will lessen Peru’s’ dependence on inefficient, costly and outdated power generation,” said Nicholas Green, General Manager of GEL. “Our goal is to help modernize and diversify the power grid and adding the MHPS JAC does just that. The MHPS JAC sets a new standard for efficiency, reliability and low-cost electricity. We’re glad to utilize this revolutionary power generation to improve Peru’s power grid.”
The Humay PS project brings the total technical selections for the MHPS JAC to 26 units. The Humay PS turbines will be manufactured at the MHPS Savannah Machinery Works (SMW), the world’s most modern turbine manufacturing facility. SMW has proven success in America with a J-Series turbine operating at 62% combined cycle efficiency at the Grand River Dam Authority in Tulsa, Okla., making it the most fuel efficient 60 Hz power plant in the world.
