Inside Mitsubishi Power Americas’ 2024 Impact Day
Building Homes, Living Values
At Mitsubishi Power, we're not just building better clean energy technologies; we're architecting a better future – one that empowers our customers and communities to combat climate change and advance human prosperity in an affordable and reliable way. This ideal is why we launched Mitsubishi Power’s first National Impact Day, a designated day when our employees across the country can volunteer as one with organizations that align with our values and mission.
Over the last few weeks, Mitsubishi Power partnered with Habitat for Humanity, a global nonprofit organization focused on creating affordable housing solutions. This partnership allowed our team the opportunity to briefly step away from their daily responsibilities and contribute to the community. We were thrilled to not only see our employees eagerly sign up to volunteer, but also filling all available spots almost immediately upon the announcement. Their enthusiasm for making a positive impact truly highlights our commitment to social responsibility.
Living Up to Our Values
During one of the Home Builds, Bill Newsom, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Power Americas, led our team in a hands-on effort to create a brighter future for a family in need. Bill emphasized the significance of this initiative, highlighting how it aligns with our company’s commitment to social responsibility and community support.
“At Mitsubishi Power, we cherish our values of safety, family, and inclusivity,” Bill said. “This fall, we’re excited to kick off our first volunteer initiative with Habitat for Humanity. It’s a wonderful chance to give back to our communities and grow closer as a team. Together, we’re creating a brighter future, one energy-efficient and eco-friendly home at a time.”
- Our values guide us, and we chose to partner with Habitat for Humanity because this initiative aligns with them meaningfully and in a real way.
- • Safety: It’s at the center of everything we do, and we believe it’s everyone’s responsibility, no matter the day or location. We have an uncompromising commitment to ourselves and our customers to ensure everyone is safe at the end of the day. This core value was displayed during the events by (1) Attendees following safety best practices shared by Habitat for Humanity and (2) Building a safe home following local and state guidelines.
- • Family: It means we are good teammates who respect and trust each other. We listen with empathy, understanding, humility, and compassion to help create a positive work-life balance. When working on a project like this, that trust comes out in all kinds of ways as we collaborate to create something unique.
- • Inclusive: Diverse teams are smarter, more innovative, and more productive. We always look to respect, empower, and learn from each other, whether out in the field or at a volunteer opportunity. Inclusivity extends to the partners and people we work with — it’s inspiring to hear the stories of those we’re helping.
Building Real Impact
Habitat for Humanity builds strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter. The nonprofit is approaching 50 years of building, repairing, and rehabilitating homes for millions of people in thousands of communities across the globe. In the backyard of our own headquarters in Lake Mary, Habitat for Humanity Greater Orlando & Osceola has a commitment to not only build homes, but to also enhance the overall well-being and quality of life for local families.
Across our nationwide locations, 250 Mitsubishi Power employees joined forces to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity affiliates, contributing their time and skills to build homes, playhouses, walls, and benches. Additionally, team members supported the Habitat for Humanity ReStore, helping to promote sustainable practices. Every home we worked on is designed to be energy-efficient and environmentally friendly, aligning perfectly with our mission to create a positive impact in our communities.
Our Houston team built four charming playhouses for local families, while the Savannah Machinery Works group spearheaded a project to create walls for a new home, laying the groundwork for a complete home assembly. Meanwhile, volunteers from Basking Ridge crafted benches and tables for various nonprofits, and the AERO team.
Over in Clifton Park & Lathan, New York, our MD&A team held a snack drive in their offices for the Regional Food Bank's BackPack program. This helps alleviate child hunger in the region by discreetly providing hungry children with bags of nutritious and easy-to-prepare food. A team also helped pack over 700 bags to get them ready to give out to kids. The BackPack Program serves nearly 4,700 students in 220 schools across 22 countries.
In Lake Mary and Orlando, more than 40 team members dedicated two days to Habitat for Humanity, working alongside future homeowners to frame and raise walls for a house in Orlando’s Parramore community. They also teamed up to construct two whimsical children’s playhouses. These playhouses will provide safe and imaginative environments for the youngest members of these families to play and grow. Who knows? Perhaps some of these children will one day become the engineers or machinists of tomorrow!
Giving Back to the Community
With safety being at the center of everything we do, we are proud to help create secure homes for families in need. We value the unique experiences and knowledge each volunteer brings to the team. Even those who had never assembled anything before found support and encouragement from their teammates, fostering an atmosphere of inclusivity and acceptance that was truly inspiring.
Opportunities like these enable Mitsubishi Power employees to learn new skills, strengthen teamwork, and bond in ways that aren’t always possible in the workplace. The overwhelming positive feedback from our team members reflects the meaningful impact of these experiences, and we know that our inaugural Impact Day is just the first of many.
“Organizing Mitsubishi Power’s first National Impact Day has been a truly heartwarming experience. Seeing over 250 of our employees come together with Habitat for Humanity to build homes, playhouses, and benches was incredible. Their enthusiasm and dedication truly demonstrate our commitment to having a positive impact on our communities. Building homes is more than constructing walls and roofs, it’s about creating a sustainable future where communities thrive, and every family has a safe, energy-efficient place to call home. I am honored to be a part of this team and can’t wait to see what we accomplish together in the future." - Julie Pelletier, Director State Government Relations and Corporate Social Responsibility.
We are immensely proud of our team for their dedication to giving back to local communities, and we extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated in Impact Day. These efforts are just the beginning of our commitment to community support. We plan to continue this initiative in the future, expanding our reach as we grow and extending our projects to even more locations. We are confident that our mission and impact will far exceed what we've accomplished today.
