Reactor Pressure Vessels Reactor Pressure Vessels (RPVs) are large cylindrical steel vessels containing a core, cooling water and generated steam, that requires high reliability to withstand high temperatures and high pressures, and neutron irradiation, which makes the RPV the most critical pressure boundary in the nuclear power plant. From the onset of nuclear power generation in Japan, Mitsubishi Power has provided the RPV and its auxiliary equipment to Boiling Water Reactors (BWRs) domestically and abroad. With extensive experience and advanced technologies, Mitsubishi Power continues to engage in providing stable energy supply meeting global market needs. This picture shows a completed 1350 MWe class Advanced Boiling Water Reactor (ABWR) RPV installed in the pit for hydrostatic testing to demonstrate structural integrity.
